SECURITY AND E-CURRENCIES

Many hackers have reproduced official e-currencies sites. The purpose of such sites is to steal user's account numbers and passphrases to empty their accounts in the blink of an eye.

DO NOT ENTER ANY INFORMATION (account # - passphrase) UNLESS YOU ARE PERFECTLY POSITIVE THAT YOU ARE ON YOUR E-CURRENCY OF CHOICE OFFICIAL SITE!!!

Sometimes, some sites offer different types of e-currencies related services (like mass payments services) and ask you for your passphrase.

NEVER ENTER YOUR PASSPHRASE ON ANY SITE OTHER THAN YOUR E-CURRENCY OFFICIAL SITE!!!

Protect your PC - INSTALL A FIREWALL

A firewall is an essential device to protect your entering and outgoing data on your PC.
ZoneAlarm is a good quality free firewall.
Download it at:

Protect your PC - SCAN IT FOR VIRUSES

Scan your PC online with this free antivirus. You don't have to download anything, just let the antivirus scan your computer.
The site is in French but the antivirus is in English. When the antivirus windows appear, select the hard drives you want to scan and hit the "scan" button.
It may be quite a long process if you only have a 56K modem.

AVG is another free antivirus. You can download it at:

Protect yourself - SEND ENCRYPTED E-MAILS

InterCypher encrypts the text written inside any email client before sending by using a multiple XOR bit shift algorithm. This method is effective at producing a unique series of non-repeatable, alphanumeric characters each time it is executed. The user has the option of adding his or her own password key to increase security.

Easy to use. Grabs text from any email client or editor and immediately encrypts it in place. Keeps the wrong people from reading your email. InterCypher can keep a record of email addresses and do mass email without including recipients lists
.

BASIC SECURITY RULES

1- NEVER access your accounts on computers that are not protected with firewalls and anti-virus programs. Note that these programs have to be regularly (daily is the best) updated to be protected against newly discovered viruses. Ideally, access your accounts only from your secured computer.

2- NEVER access your accounts on public (i.e. cybercafes) computers.

3- ALWAYS make sure that you are really on the site your are accessing (and not on a copy of it).

4- NEVER type your accounts passwords on any other site than the one on which it is supposed to be used. For example, the other day, I found a site that, pretending to offer a mass-payment service, asked for my e-gold passphrase.

5- NEVER reveal your passwords to ANYONE.
WRITE THEM on paper and HIDE THE PAPER.
DO NOT store your passwords on your computer or in any "password-reminder" programs.
USE varied and "unlogical" passwords (for example "ksd84jg8nc55" instead of "myaccount").
DO NOT use the same password for different sites.

goldbars

Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.
Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910)

An inch of time cannot be bought with an inch of gold.
Chinese Proverb

Treasure the love you receive above all. It will survive long after your gold and good health have vanished.
Og Mandino

One can pay back the loan of gold, but one dies forever in debt to those who are kind.
Malayan Proverb

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.
Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924)

Do not be fooled into believing that because a man is rich he is necessarily smart. There is ample proof to the contrary.
Julius Rosenwald

The company of just and righteous men is better than wealth and a rich estate.
Euripides (485 BC - 406 BC), Aegeus

Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I'm not there, I go to work.
Robert Orben

No one can possibly achieve any real and lasting success or "get rich" in business by being a conformist.
J. Paul Getty
